Skullview - Metalkill The World (2010)

Artist : Skullview
Country : USA
Release : Metalkill The World
Year : 2010
Genre : Heavy Metal
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

Their metal is free from all trends and sounds like coming from the glory days back in the Eighties. The guitars unleash barricades of searing riffs, the rhythm section is laying down a muscular backbone, and the vocalist has one of these testosterone fuelled voices that reminds of bands like Iced Earth and Omen. The songs are basically long, averaging six minutes, allowing the band to switch between hard hitting up-tempo parts and intense mid-tempo parts. The band’s faster side is best demonstrated on Defiance, Desperation, Defeat, with four minutes the shortest track on the album, while their slower material shows that they have also learned some lessons from doom metal bands like Trouble and Pentagram.

At first released as an indie-album, "The Last Sunset" ler to a contract with Berlin-based label Noise Records - more than deserved, because what CONCEPTION is offering us here is slightly progressive Melodic Metal of the highest level!
Borne by Roy Khan's unique voice and Tore Ostby's filigree, partly flamenco-influenced guitarwork the Norwegians are giving us a ride that you do not find often.

Fallen Angel - Crawling Out Of Hell (2010)

Artist : Fallen Angel
Country : USA
Release : Crawling Out Of Hell
Year : 2010
Genre : Heavy Metal
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

This is a self-released work from the US Heavy/Speed Metal outfit FALLEN ANGEL and this first piece of work sees a perfectly designed CD album coming along with a full-book novel analyzing the music’s concept theme to the max. Or the music did derive from the book story? Or, who cares? “Crawling Out Of Hell” is the debut CD by this authentic band and is accompanied (or sold in separate, if you wish) by a 250-page story book (yes, like the ones you see at book stores!) unveiling the total story of what the album also features in brief. Here you can have all the details ‘bout a purchase you need to get hold of. Rare are the times I’ve seen such a serious work from an unsigned band.

Info:

''80's Baron Rojo albums are way better than the 90s, when Sherpa was bassist and singer in many songs. He composed Baron's best songs, and his wife wrote many lyrics. I specially recommend to listen the albums Larga vida al rock'n roll, Volumen brutal (this is the most known) and Tierra de nadie''. Previous info and review is from our Spanish metallian: XD

Highlord - Heir Of Power (1999)

Artist : Highlord
Country : Italy
Release : Heir Of Power
Year : 1999
Genre : Heavy Metal
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

Another band to emerge and benefit from the rise of the Italian school, Power Metallers Highlord arguably reached their stride with their mighty Breath of Eternity opus a few years back, but unfortunately from the outset things didn't look so promising, I can assure you. Their 1999 debut Heir of Power, despite the eye catching artwork (which they delicatly pilfered from Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time) was not quite the Herculean feat of musical majesty that we all expected, given the hype this band generated at the back end of the 90s. Their sophomore effort When the Aurora Falls... was in a different league to this drivel, which sits firmly atop the Rhapsody, Labyrinth and Skylark tree of how to sound completely unoriginal and still make a mockery of the material at hand. It's a shame really, because despite the boxy production — which sounds like it was recorded inside a wheelie bin — and pitiful performances — particularly of vocalist Vasce - there is some decent fantasy-based Power Metal to be found here, including the complex "Land of Eternal Ice", speedy opener "Through the Wind" and the album's infectious high point, "The Eclipse".

Year : 1999

Zoetrope - Mind Over Splatter (1993)

Artist : Zoetrope
Country : USA
Release : Mind Over Splatter
Year : 1993
Genre : Heavy Metal
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

Mind Over Splatter is quite a nostalgic affair. At this point there was little left of Zoetrope's original line-up, but the album still carries unmistakable elements of the band's customary, slightly punkish "street thrash" style that their earlier works established. The sound quality could be better, though, as the production is sort of muffled and hollow, and the guitars in particular lack sharpness. On the other hand, some flaws only add to the general organic and non-artificial feel. Complete with powerful holler-like vocals, this music has some strangely attractive uplifting quality, not to forget that the snappiest tracks like Down And Out and Tomorrow It's You are simply quite fine thrashers. (The terrible rap song Splattered must be only a joke and fortunately very short as such.) If speed/thrash metal with a notable degree of feelgood value sounds interesting to you then Mind Over Splatter is not a bad choice at all.

Victory - You Bought It You Name It (1992)

Artist :       Victory
Country :     Germany
Release :     You Bought It You Name It
Year :           1992
Genre :       Heavy Metal
File Type :   mp3 320

Info:

When experts talk about important German cult bands, the name Victory always comes up. The band from Hannover belonged alongside Accept and the Scorpions to Germany's number 1 export article in the eighties and was one of the few acts that could establish itself in the USA. Their carrer began in the autumn of 1984, when guitarist Tommy Newton and bass player Peter were working on a new album for their band Fargo. Impressed with the exciting song material, the Scorpions drummer Herman Rarebell took the band under his wing and booked an American producer. Two days later, the band could reviel that the internationaly renominated Rock singer Charlie Huhn had joined the group. The result of the studio session was then sent on to the US manager David Krebs (Aerosmith, Scorpions, etc.), who then took the musicians to New York. Here the band name Fargo was changed to Victory and they were introduced to all the major record companies where they were finally taken on by /Epic` (Sony Music). With this Victory then travelled to Los Angeles, where they let the then, in his view, the most important sound engineer Michael Wagener mix the recording. In 1985 the debut album Victory was thren released into the record shops worldwide. In the same year the band went on their first US tour: Victory completed 60 shows in the United States including four of the largest festivals in the country where they let themselves be celebrated by 80.000 crazy fans at the /Texxas Jam` Festival in Dallas.

Ivanhoe - Symbols Of Time (1995)

Artist : Ivanhoe
Country : Germany
Release : Symbols Of Time
Year : 1995
Genre : Heavy Metal
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

1995's Symbols of Time was the second album from German progressive metal band Ivanhoe. You always hear about how Conception and Stratovarius were the frontrunners of the European prog metal scene, but Ivanhoe was another early band to pioneer this sound (their debut was in 1992). Ivanhoe was also notable for featuring a young Andy Franck on vocals. Franck of course went on to front Brainstorm and Symphorce.
Ivanhoe's sound was very similar to Conception's. They were obviously heavily influenced by Fates Warning and early Dream Theater, and played highly technical, largely emotion-free metal at a time and place where that was far from popular. This is pretty technical stuff, with lots of intricate guitar work and plenty if keyboards. It's not as melodic as I'd normally like (Vanden Plas is more my style), but you have to admire the musicianship on display. Franck's vocals are nowhere near as strong as his later work, but it's still cool to hear him in a more textbook progressive setting. The female vocals on "By a Feeling" are also a cool touch.

F5 - The Reckoning (2008)

Artist : F5
Country : USA
Release : The Reckoning
Year : 2008
Genre : Heavy Metal
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

Dave Ellefson (formerly of Megadeth) took a few years to find his post-‘deth place in the metal arena. With the second full-length album from F5, he has found it. While the initial draw to F5 for many metal fans is clearly Ellefson’s Megadeth pedigree, “The Reckoning” is not the second movement of the “Symphony of Destruction.” While there are some 1980’s metal and thrash influences, the record takes Ellefson far away from Megadeth. And as such it should be judged on its own merits. The entire album is filled with strong, and more importantly, tight songwriting. The breakdowns are crunchy, the bass rolls, and the guitars are flashy but not overdone. The title track is a perfect example of the band’s strengths. Ellefson and Jimmy DeGrasso (drums, formerly Y&T, Suicidal Tendencies, Alice Cooper, Megadeth) lay down a complex yet easily head-bangable beat.
